About Project

This was an exciting departure for Acorn, extending & refurbishing a three-storey townhouse about 100 years younger than we normally tackle. This was a bit “quart into a pint pot”, providing several new features in the original house. The result is a lovely extension and updating of an early 2000s property, of which we are enormously proud.

The ground level was extended at the rear to create a new dining room, fully glazed on one side with triple sliding doors. All the new windows and doors matched the original 20-year-old ones in style and colour.

The kitchen was replaced with a gorgeous new Robert Timmons kitchen, making the most of the original space and adding a small dining area in the room.

The hall was transformed by the replanning of the space, opening it right up so that the beautiful new oak staircase can take centre stage. The original WC was replanned to occupy less space, and the utility cupboard was moved upstairs. The entire ground floor was provided with wet underfloor heating and with porcelain tiling throughout, which extended into the back garden. A hanging oil-burning fire was fitted in the living room.

The first floor was also partially re-planned and completely refurbished, with a new enlarged family bathroom; a new ensuite to the guest bedroom; and the conversion of the old cylinder cupboard into a new utility space.

The top floor master suite was extended out onto part of an original roof terrace, providing additional suite space. The ensuite was completely updated.

We hand-built joinery providing new wardrobe & storage space in the master suite; in the second bedroom; and in the hall, under and beside the staircase. A existing large built-in shelving & desk unit was carefully dismantled and reinstalled in another room. And, of course, we fully decorated the whole of the home.

Externally, we created a new rear garden space with planting beds, new fencing, timber benching, porcelain paving and a pizza oven. The house was originally clad with Iroko timber and zinc roofing, which we faithfully matched in the extensions. We also re-treated the original Iroko cladding, taking years off it. Who wouldn’t want that?
