Acorn recently completed this lovely new kitchen / diner extension, which replaced an older small extension. Being literally across the road from our office, it had to go well! And like all Acorn projects, happily, it did.
The centrepiece of the project is a stunning new kitchen with dining and relaxation space, but the works also included forming a new utility room hidden behind a sliding door and a separate traditionally styled WC. The specification includes wet underfloor heating and Amtico flooring. The kitchen is one of the first of a new Howdens range, the Elmbridge, which delivers a beautiful kitchen with a hand-built appearance, including for instance a larder unit. Quartz worktops and very high-quality appliances and fittings complete the picture.
The extension walls were built with yellow stock brickwork, inside and out. Thin profile sliding doors with a matching roof lantern provide lots of natural light into the new extension, but being South facing, the specification also included air conditioning. The hallway was re-floored with hand-laid black & white Victorian tiling, that also ran into the new WC.
The sliding doors lead out to an elegant porcelain-tiled patio and then out to a newly landscaped garden, all delivered by Acorn, including contemporary fencing, raised planters and practical artificial grass suitable for an active youngster.
One very interesting aspect of the project was to refresh the existing loft, ahead of a future project to replace it. Externally, we carefully cleaned the old red brown cladding tiles and re-sprayed them in a contemporary dark grey to match the rest of the back of the house. Inside the loft, we replaced an old skylight and installed air conditioning.
