Colin, Paul, and the rest of the Acorn team were delighted to be shortlisted nominated in the FMB 2021 Awards, for the best London region Medium Renovation Project and Large Renovation Project categories that we were entered for. Whilst we did not win either category on this occasion, this independent recognition of the service and quality that Acorn delivers to our customers as standard makes us very proud indeed. We aim to be amongst the very best at what we do and this validation confirms that we are just that. Our congratulations to the award winners in both categories!
We are also proud to have been the last-ever winners of the London region Heritage award in the FMB 2019 awards for our work on a late Victorian villa in Greenwich.
Since 1999, the Master Builder Awards has been a flagship for high-quality building work, showcasing examples of fantastic craftsmanship, exceptional customer service and building excellence. Organised by the FMB, the awards programme is unique in that any project entered by the builder must be backed up by the customer – giving clients the opportunity to support those building companies that have delivered exceptional results. The awards programme recognises the hard work and contribution that small and medium-sized (SME) building firms make to the UK construction industry.
Acorn Construction & Refurbishment Ltd was crowned winner for restoring a Victorian family home. The essence of this project lay in recognising what this house used to look like before it was damaged by bombing in the Second World War. The house had been poorly repaired in the 1940s, was structurally unsound and its original character was lost. The team at Acorn Construction & Refurbishment Ltd lovingly restored the property with a new kitchen, a new bathroom and shower room and sympathetic refurbishment of the interiors. They also restored the front bay window that was lost in the 1940s repair to match the rest of the properties on the street.
Judges loved the story of the build stating: “This project tells the story of the FMB taking us back to our roots as the FMB was formed in London during the blitz to help re-build bomb-damaged homes. It is lovely to see that nearly 80 years after the bomb dropped, a London Master Builder came back and made good the bomb damage, made the house safe and carefully restored its original façade.”
Acorn Construction & Refurbishment Ltd was selected by the judges to win the London region award, which was presented at a gala dinner hosted at Oxford Belfry, Milton Common, Thame on Friday 5th April. The firm will now go through to compete in the national finals for the chance to win the UK category title. The national ceremony will be held at the InterContinental Hotel, Park Lane, London on 20th September.
Barry Mortimer, Director of FMB London, said: “The Master Builder Awards give the FMB the opportunity to celebrate a job well done and for clients to say thank you to their builders. For the construction industry, it is an opportunity to celebrate all that is good about small local building firms and their contribution to the UK economy.
“Time and time again, we have been impressed with just how far these builders will go to ensure their client is happy. It is this dedication that we want to celebrate. Acorn Construction & Refurbishment Ltd should feel justly proud of their achievement in winning and we wish the firm every success in the national competition.”
